Rukhsana joined Langley Wellington in 2011 and is a Partner of the firm specialising in Education Law. Rukhsana qualified as a Solicitor in 1997, having completed her LLB Hons in Law at Wolverhampton University and College of Law York.

Rukhsana has worked on many complex Educational Negligence Cases and, in 2002, achieved the highest out-of-court settlement against a Local Authority for failing to diagnose a client’s Dyslexia.

From 2003 to 2011, she worked for Worcestershire County Council as a Diversity Officer, helping the Organisation meet its legal equality duty under the Equality Act 2010, where she gained invaluable experience in how a local authority works.

Rukhsana has extensive experience in dealing with all areas of Education Law and specialises in Special Education Needs and appeals to the SEND Tribunal. She advises and represents parents seeking to obtain or challenge a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan for their child between 0 to 25 years old.

She has also gained a great deal of experience in other fields such as civil litigation, personal injury law and employment law.

She has a diverse private caseload and acts for parents across the country. Her work includes appeals for children with Aspergers Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language Impairment and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. In addition, she advises on school admission and school exclusion appeals.

Rukhsana finds it very rewarding to help parents ensure that local authorities meet their child’s Special Educational Needs. She has 2 brothers and a sister with severe learning and physical disabilities (they were diagnosed with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome at birth) and understands, from her own experience, a parent’s desire to ensure the education their child receives is appropriate and meets their particular needs.
